Review

Seconds Apart is … a side project from the infamous After Dark Horrorfest film company. These films are always a hit or miss I find. Some of them are terrific (think Tooth and Nail, Wicked Little Things, or The Gravedancers), and some are complete busts (think Reincarnation, Nightmare Man, or From Within). Even though I never know how to feel about these films, I was really excited when I saw the trailer for Seconds Apart. It’s hard to bring something new to the table of horror, and I think the film did that to a degree. The characters, whom we follow throughout the entire film, are wicked creepy, which is disturbing to sit with them for the entire film, but the parts of the film I find most interested are when Jonah starts realizing pieces of his humanity (through love!). The film has great special effects and, at no point, did I find the film to be cheesy. The gory parts were not over the top or overused, which I think shows the ability for a horror film to be decent. I will say there was a bit too much flashbacking for Orlando Jones’ character (we know, your wife died in a fire, we don’t have to watch it 30 times). The psychomanipulation of the characters make audiences questions what is real and what they are controlling, which kept me engaged. If you are looking for a horror film that has pits of psychological terror and flatout torture in it, then this film is for you!
