I didn’t really want to see Source Code to begin with – when I saw the trailer, I thought “Wow, Matrix rip-off”, and only watched it because I went with a group of people, then we saw a film I wanted to see. In the end, I’m glad I saw it because it wasn’t really a rip-off at all and explored some new dimensions of the sci-fi genre. The acting was solid, and there were moments of action that shifted between moments of laughter and moral dilemma. The interactions between Colter and Goodwin were probably the most interesting moments in the film. Their relationship defined how the story proceeded, and really spoke a lot about government control versus individual responsibility and morality. I’m sure that isn’t really what they were going for, but I also like to read more into films than what the intentions were. There were certainly moments in the film that were a little farfetched (even for the plot), for example, I highly doubt that Goodwin would take the actions she actually did (but I suppose that’s why its a movie!). Overall, the film was fun and kept me engaged, nothing earth-shattering, but worth seeing.
